House music (to paraphrase Wikipedia) is dance music with a prominent bass drum on a 4/4 beat, a heavy electronic synthesizer bass line, electronic effects and occasional samples (pieces of other songs).

The word house comes from a club called the Warehouse in Chicago where this music is said to have started in the late 70's/early 80's although this is disputed. House music is one of the most popular kinds of music played in clubs around the world today.
