Barry Spector, a Harvard grauduate who writes about American history and politics from the perspectives of myth and archetypal psychology, is the author of Madness At The Gates Of The City: The Myth Of American Innocence (2011, Regent Press).
The book dissects America's belief in innocence and how that has allowed us to re-enact old patterns that cause us to subvert our goals and miss the deeper meaning in events.
Through his book, Mr. Spector uses Greek mythology, indigenous wisdom and archetypal psychology to discover new ways of looking at our present situation and finding healing solutions.

Writers' Voices with Monica and Caroline welcomes two guests this week. First up is Geoffrey Hoppe, writer of "Masters in the New Energy" by Adamus Saint Germain. Don't worry if that sounds confusing; Geoffrey channels Adamus Saint Germain. According to Wikipedia, The Count of St. Germain (fl. 1710–1784) has been variously described as a courtier, adventurer, charlatan, inventor, alchemist, and musician, but is best known for his connection to Theosophy. Tune in for an unusual and intriguing interview.
Next, Writers' Voices has the pleasure of speaking with Freddy Niagara Fonseca, Fairfield's own Renaissance Man, about his forthcoming poetry anthology, "This Enduring Gift." This beautiful volume, featuring 76 poets who have lived in Fairfield, is scheduled to launch September 10.
Join Monica and special guest host Paul Gandy as they welcome former Fairfield
resident Jessica Hawthorne-Castro to Writers' Voices.
Hawthorne-Castro was formerly a successful television literary agent for Hollywood's Endeavor Agency, representing writers, directors and producers for television and feature films. In this capacity, she assisted the creators of several top-rated TV programs, such as Entourage, The Office, Heroes, 24, and Law and Order. Jessica has since joined forces with her father, Tim Hawthorne, as the next generation of Hawthorne Direct, a Fairfield-based full-service television advertising agency.
Former Fairfielder Galen Saturley speaks with Writers' Voices host Monica Hadley about his offerings in Blue Tree Publishing's Portrait of a Restaurant series (www.thebluetree.com). These beautiful books break new ground by combining
art photography and recipes, focusing on the best restaurants in a specific town. Galen recently published Portrait of a Restaurant: Cambridge and is
working on two more books in the series.
Writer's Voices airs Friday at 1 pm and is rebroadcast Monday morning at 8 am.
Gangaji is an American-born spiritual teacher dedicated to sharing the path of freedom through simple and direct self-inquiry, as taught by the legendary sage Sri Ramana Maharshi of India. In 1990, Gangaji (then Antoinette Roberson Varner) entered this lineage through Sri H.W.L. Poonjaji. Since that time, she has traveled the world, holding gatherings and retreats with spiritual seekers of all faiths.
Join Monica and Caroline on Writers' Voices this Monday at 8am for a live interview with Gangaji to celebrate the publication by Soundstrue.com of a collector's edition of You Are That, first shared more than a decade ago and now updated to include both original volumes, a new introduction, rare photographs, and new insights. This special edition delves into natural inquiries about our existence, including the nature of mind, how to expose the core of suffering, and how to overcome the last obstacle of self-doubt.
Writers' Voices with Monica and Caroline continues their November theme of women's wisdom with this week's guest, award-winning author and international speaker, Jennifer Read Hawthorne.
Jennifer is co-author of four bestselling books, including Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul and Chicken Soup for the Mother’s Soul. Both books reached #1 on the New York Times and #1 and #2 on USA Today’s best-seller lists and continue to be among the most popular of all books in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series.
As an author and self-esteem expert, Jennifer has appeared on CNN, Sally Jesse Raphael, Pure Oxygen, and hundreds of national, regional and local TV and radio shows. She has been featured in numerous magazine and newspaper articles, and writes articles for national magazines such as Ladies Home Journal.
Join Monica and Caroline Monday Nov 12 at 8am for a conversation with Jennifer about her new book, "Life Lessons for Loving the Way you Live," and how she came to write it.
Monica and Caroline's guest on Writers' Voices this week is Huston Diehl, professor of English at the University of Iowa and author of "Dream Not of Other Worlds: Teaching in a Segregated Elementary School, 1970," published by the University of Iowa Press.
When Huston Diehl began teaching a fourth-grade class in a "Negro" elementary school in rural Louisa County, Virginia, the school's white superintendent assured her that he didn't expect her to teach "those children" anything.
She soon discovered how these low expectations, widely shared by the white community, impeded her students' ability to learn."
