Lake Street Dive on Roots Rock Roadhouse

They recently appeared on the David Letterman Show and their performance tonight (March 25th) at The Englert in Iowa City has been SOLD OUT for weeks (as well as all their shows in other cities). Who is this band? Folks, meet Lake Street Dive; four graduates of the New England Conservatory of Music. They will be my featured artist on Roots Rock Roadhouse today, just before I drive to Iowa City  with 15 other insightful, Fairfield ticket holders.  If you can't make the live show, this is the next best thing so join the fun!

Live in-studio performance with indie-folk duo Barnaby Bright

Barnaby BrightThis week on Local Yokels, KRUU's own Keith DeBoer will host a live, in-studio performance and interview. His guests will be the Indie-Folk duo, Barnaby Bright who will be appearing at Cafe Paradiso later tonight [with The Sea, The Sea].

This husband and wife muscial duo, were the grand prize winners at the NY Song Circle competition and they've been featured on national television soundtracks for episodes of  ER and Days of our Lives. Their EP 'Gravity' was named one of the top 100 records of the year by Amazon. They've played at the Lincoln Center and NPR's Mountain Stage and opened for bands like the Lumineers and Norah Jones. Their new CD is called The Longest Day.

Barnaby Bright and The Sea, The Sea

B BrightThis week we'll feature two wonderful, guy-girl duos, who will be appearing at Cafe Paradiso this Saturday night. Husband and wife duo, Barnaby Bright (left), were the grand prize winners at the NY Song Circle competition and they've been featured on national television soundtracks for episodes of  ER and Days of our Lives.The SEa Their EP 'Gravity' was named one of the top 100 records of the year by Amazon. They've played at the Lincoln Center and NPR's Mountain Stage and shared stages with the Lumineers and Norah Jones.

   This will be the third Fairfield appearance for sweethearts Chuck and Mira who are known as The Sea The Sea (right). These two have mastered the art of weaving their voices into a single musical elixir. They've also appeared on NPR's Mountain Stage, been praised by the roots music magazine, No Depression, and just released an album, called Love We Are We Love, produced by Todd Sickafoose whose prior work includes Anais Mitchell and Ani DeFranco.

Edie Brickell This week we're celebrating Edie Brickell's (March 10th) birthday. We'll play select songs from her alt-rock recordings with the New Bohemians, her solo singer-songwriter albums, her more recent jazz-rock-pop collaborations with The Gaddabouts and her 2013 Americana album with Steve Martin on banjo.

Jason Isbell on Roots Rock Roadhouse

 

One of the albums that appeared on many critic's top ten lists for the year 2013 was Jason Isbell's collection of songs called: Southeastern.  His songs are simultaneously tender and agressive:

The Autumn Defense on Roots Rock Roadhouse

Our feature this week is a duo called The Autumn Defense. This retro 60's roots/pop duo consists of Pat Sanone and John Stirrat and is a side project for these two members of the band Wilco. We'll feature their latest album called Fifth.

The 24 year old singer-songwriter hails from Seattle Washington and tours with his sister, Abby, who plays violin and does back up vocals.
