Celebrating Duane Allman on Roots Rock Roadhouse

Duane Allman left the music scene in Los Angeles and returned to Florida where he jammed with Butch Trucks, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley and Jaimoe. Meanwhile his reputation as a session musican grew and he recorded songs with Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin and King Curtis at the famous Muscle Shoals studio in Alabama and had guest apearances on albums by Eric Clapton and others. He called his brother Gregg to come home from California and the Allman Brothers Band was born. In their December 1970 appearance at the Fillmore East in NYC, they played so many encores that the main act, Canned Heat didn't go on until 3:30 a.m. His band was headed for international stardom when Duane lost control of his motorcycle and died in 1971. We'll be celebrating his November 20, 1946 birthday on this week's show.
