Elephant RevivalDJ Andy Bargerstock steps up with another LIVE program of quality tracks from off-the-beaten path.  This week's spotlight shines on the four-sister band SHEL (photo right) and Fairfest band ELEPHANT REVIVAL (photo left) and their friends Shook Twins who also impressed the Fairfest crowd with a candlelight concert in FACC when the power went down with a storm. Music from Eric Clapton's new CD and Sawyer Fredricks (Voice winner).  Sarah Jarosz who will play Englert on July 14 offers tracks from her upcoming CD release Undercurrent.

And, then, the second hour.....

The second-hour Chill Zone highlights SHELetherically beautiful music from UK's electronic DJ duo, Above & Beyond, along with female vocals from Acoustic II the CD coming soon with preview tracks especially for you.  Acoustic guitar blues virtuoso Justin Johnson shapes notes on two tracks from Smoke and Mirrors.

Sarah Jarosz Trio(See playlist link below).  DJ Andy Bargerstock spotlights rising singer-songwriter Sarah Jarosz (photo left) whose trio will be playing Englert Theater on July 14th in Iowa City, IA. You will hear the first single "House of Mercy" from her new CD Undercurrent to be released in May.  Our second spotlight will warm up the creative collaboration of electronic music master William Orbit and UK folk-indie singer-songwriter Beth Orton (photo right).  New music from The Rides, the supergroup consisting of Stephen Stills, Kenny Wayne Beth OrtonShephard, and Barry Goldberg. Will sample a few of the more mellow songs from Santana's new album too.

The second-hour Chill Session brings more electro-acoustic choice cuts including the Human Experience & Lila Rose, Azure Ray, Bethia Mitchell, This Mortal Coil, and Little People.

Sneaker PimpsLast week's Fringe Toast Retrospective Part 1 show created quite a stir. One listener characterized the experience as “hypnotic” and another said it was "other worldly in a really good way."  This week's Retrospective Part 2 entails yet another trance-inducing installment from brother Charlie’s favorites list. Spotlight shines on Kelli Ali lead singer for the Sneaker Pimps (photo left). Click here for complete playlist.

We start off with Roy Buchanan’s blues guitar "Sweet Dreams", followed by "Shut Your Eyes" by Snow Patrol (photo right) and "Low Times" by the School for Seven Bells. Then, comes the TV theme music from thesnow patrol BBC crime drama Luther which is Massive Attack's song "Paradise Circus".  And Greg Laswell offers his "Undone" used as a theme song for Friday Night Lights.   

We revisit "Wonderful Life" by DJ producer Carl Craig, and a marvelous  church organ-baritone sax piece "Good Places" with Beaver & Krause and jazz great Gerry Mulligan. In the Chill Zone second hour, prepare for the works of Brian Eno, Zero 7, the Egg and Magic Sound Fabric.  Many of these are destined to become classics in your music library.

In the past ten years, DJ Andy Bargerstock has introduced the listeners of Fringe Toast to thousands of new tunes from many genres and artists around the world.  We make yearly Crispy Awards for best new releases from off-the-beaten path. And, of course there are the epic early fall Best of Fringe Toast editions. This program's playlist was selected by DJ Andy’s brother, Charlie, with his favorite tracks from the past. Next week, prepare to listen to Part 2.  Both Charlie and DJ Andy will be hosting live on these dates.

Start with Ryan Bingham’s cut "Until I’m cat powerOne with You" which was theme music for the TV series The Bridge. We bring back an old favorite "Had a Dream" by actress and sometimes singer Bird York and "Willie" by Cat Power (photo right). We feature electronic composer and DJ Emancipator’s "When I Go" and two pieces by Blue Tofu--"Wild Blue" and "Spiritual". Throw in some Mark Isham, Zero 7 (photo upper left), Dido and join the second hour swoon of Chill Zone classics. Be assured, this music never grows old.

KaleidaBased on a text message from my daughter in Hawaii, I was alerted last week to the rising young English female duo named KALEIDA (photo left). This week we feature several tracks released in the past year across two EPs. The ladies are vocalist Christina Wood in pink shirt and Cicely Goulder who plays synthesizer, electro-beats, and produces the tracks.  

In the second-hour Chill Session, your ears will be soothed by the electro-acoustic performances of Yppah, Sohn, Cosmo's Midnight, Purity Ring, Vallis Alps, The Egg... and additional tracks from Kaleida.

Watch for article about her in March issue of Iowa Source Magazine. The Swedish sister duo First Aid Kit (photo left) joins the first set with their haunting vocals on "My Silver Lining." Building on introduction last week, DJ Andy shares more tracks from UK actor/singer Johnny Flynn reflecting his Nick Drake style.  Twin spins on this program come from Laura Veirs, Cary Brothers, Chris Thile, Peter Bradley tara desantisAdams, and School of the Seven Bells.
