Buffy St MarieDJ Andy Bargerstock takes us on a journey to the early 1970s (when he was doing college radio in Pennsylvania).  You will hear what Fringe Toast Music program might have sounded like in 1971 with reflections on tracks from '67-'71. You will hear exotic, rarely heard and sometimes forgotten tracks from way, way off the beaten path.  The spotlight shines on the entire playlist (click here) but with special kudos to Native American singer Buffy St. Marie (left) and the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band (album cover rigWest Coast Pop Art Exp Bandht). Buffy sings the haunting "Codine" telling the evils of drug addiction. WCPAEB drifts in with beautifully crafted "The Smell of Incense".

Imagine the list of bands in the Underground Music scene in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the era that some say was the most creative period in Western music history. In the second-hour CHill Session, your ears will delight with beautiful and surreal tracks from artists like Rodriguez, Paul Siebel, Sweetwater, Quill, Harvey Mandel, Blodwyn Pig, HP Lovecraft, and Tonto's Expanding Head Band.

Sarah Jarosz TrioMore choice tracks from DJ Andy Bargerstock. Northeast Jam-band Assembly of Dust leads off with two live tracks. Then, leading up to the July 14, 2016 concert at the Englert Theater in Iowa City, IA, rising young singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Sarah Jarosz & Trio (photo left), will perform her unique blend of new grass and ethereal realms with spotlight on tracks from the new CD Undercurrent. Also, in the first hour, listen closely for harmonies from the debut self-titled album of Case/Lang/Veirs.  Twin-spins each from on Jon Shain & Joe Newberry and Band of Horses.

The eagerly anticipated second-hour Chill Session includes sonic gems from Red Hot Chili Peppers made-over by electronic producer DangerMouse putting them unexpectedly and delightful into Fringe Toast spotlight second-hour gig.  Justin Johnson returns with more vintage acoustic guitar blues on cigar-box guitars from early 1900s. Other contributors include Sheila Chandra, Cass McCombs, Andi Starr, Cry Wolf, and Digitonal.  Ah, yes, more Above & Beyond too!

Above & Beyond(See link to playlist below). This week marks the release of Acoustic II CD from UK's Above & Beyond (photo left) which is normally considered an electronic trance band.  But, this second accoustic CD breathes new life and context into their vast catalog of music featuring vocals from their long-time lead vocalist Zoe Johnston and other contributors.  Early in the second hour, you will hear a Above & Beyond on stagefew soothing tracks from this epic new album. The program begins with new tracks from Paul Simon, and also from Sweet Talk Radio, N*Grandjean, and The Rescues

The second-hour Chill begins with Above & Beyond, Society of Broken Souls, Rising Appalachia, Rhye and Rezonate.  The last 30 minutes of electro-acoustiic instrumentals features Richard Bone, The Peaking Goddess Collective, and a special 7-minute track from N*Grandjean called "The First Picture (RocknRolla Soundsystem Mix)."
