Ellis is back! Live Interview Today, Concert Saturday 4/12!

Ellis Delany

Ellis. Who hasn’t heard Ellis. Fairfield has fallen in love with her. She packs Cafe Paradiso every time she plays. The phenomenon is however not unique. She seems to have this effect wherever she goes. Ellis is quietly amassing a loyal following of supporters across the country.

After her Feb 2013 appearance on A Prairie Home Companion, Ellis’ music charted in the Folk Top 100 in iTunes and Folk Top 20 on Amazon.com. She also received hundreds of messages from strangers including, "you exude pure joy", "I heard you and fell in love" and “I was stopped in my tracks by your music and captivating laugh” as well as "Yours is a voice we all need to hear.” Ellis’ performances are transformational; she leaves her audiences better than she finds them, with softened edges & opened hearts.

Tune in to Lyrical Venus Wednesday morning for a live call-in from this amazing artist.  She will be appearing at Cafe Paradiso on Saturday, April 12th at 8pm

Interview with Hugh Cornwell of the The Stranglers

On Monday the 17th of February I will be broadcasting an Interview with Hugh Cornwell.

Hugh Cornwell is a British Musician, Singer Songwriter who had huge success during the eighties with the band The Stranglers being one of the premier bands in Britain alongside bands like the police and the clash. Despite their huge success in Europe scoring 23 top 40 singles and Albums the Stranglers remained largely unknown in the US. A phenomenon Hugh explained with their reluctance doing the extensive touring that would be necessary to become really popular in the US.

Hugh left the Stranglers in 1990 pursuing a solo career.  Even so he could not reclaim the success of the Stranglers, he remains as one off the most revered and respected musicians on the British island.

Since about five years Hugh is touring the US regularly and I was lucky enough to catch him on his last tour in Minneapolis. I regard myself extremely lucky for this opportunity to have this conversation and I am sharing it with you tonight in my show. So join me for this one hour with one of the most fascinating Musicians on today's Music scene.

Hospice workers Jennifer Hamilton and Liza McClure with be discussing both their new company Thresholding: Customized Palliative Services, www.thresholdingcare.com and the death cafe they are hosting www.deathcafe.com

Mike Ragogna (aka the encyclopedia of music) will discuss all aspects of the music industry. He is recently back from Mexico where he interviewed music legend, Carlos Santana. Mike is a regular contributor to he Huffington Post.

Heather Mae Live Interview on Lyrical Venus!

Heather MaeOne of these days I'll see the Eiffle Tower
One of these days I'll go skinny dipping
One of these days I'll say hello to her
One of these days I'll marry him
~ Heather Mae, One of These Days

When we last talked with Heather Mae, she was in the midst of her year-long quest to write a song every day.  Since then, she has indeed reached the 365 song goal, and managed to narrow down that collection to 12 songs to put on her album appropriately titled "One Year of Songs".  She even filmed a video with the help of her fans from around the world for the song "One of These Days", an inspiring ode to seize the day and follow your dreams.

Heather is stopping in Fairfield on a cross-country tour and will join us in the studio for a live interview at 9:30am today!  She is performing at Cafe Paradiso Wednesday, Aug 7th at 8pm (tonight), along with Heather Miller. (AKA your DJ Hum).

Enjoy a new song from Mavis Staples, who's playing the Englert Theatre Fri July 19th. This comes from the Anti Records Summer Sampler 2013 just in the door today!

Plus an interview with Chicago chanteuse Jennifer Hall, who performs at Cafe P Friday, July 19th at 8pm. Click on her name to see a video of her kickstarter project and a great live song recorded in the subway.

Plus James Moore talks with fiddle maestro Chris McKhool of the Sultans of String, who play Cafe P Thursday, July 25th.

You gotta love Fairfield and Iowa and this ol' world!!

Jazz, Funk and Soul Revival this Saturday Night

Often when I tell people that I love funk and jazz they think of the big jazz bands of the 30's or the funk scene of the late 60's/early 70's. What they don't realize is that the jazz and funk scene is still alive and well today. In fact, the last decade has witnessed a soul/funk revival that shows no signs of slowing down. Record labels, such as Daptone Records on the East Coast and Ubiquity Records on the West Coast, continue to sign and release contemporary soul, funk and R&B acts--not just legends from the past, but fresh blood: contemporary artists with a new take on that classic jazz/funk sound for a new kind of listener.

This Saturday night we're going to be listening to some of my favorite jazz and funk albums that have come out over the last few years. We're going to hear from the Greyboy Allstars, a funk group based out of San Deigo, off of their album that they released last month (after a 5 year hiatus): Inland Emperor. We'll also hear from the British acid jazz group the James Taylor Quartet off of their album that they released just last week: Closer to the Moon. On top of that we've got The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Ikebe Shakedown, Menehan Street Band, Snarky Puppy, The New Mastersounds, Heavy Shift and a whole lot more funky sweetness. If you can dig the funk, soul and jazz scene, and want to see where it is progressing today, then make sure not to miss this Saturday night's editon of The After Hours.
