And Why Not?

Yes, it's Shoegazer's first new show of the new year and we're confident the music on tap has been worth the wait. The lineup includes synth-laden tracks from Neon Indian and M83, as well as Beirut, Atlas Sound, Jonsi and relative unknowns but not for long Youth Lagoon and The New Division, among others. Quality. Saturday evening at 6 and again Thursday morning at 9. We're comfortable with being your guilty pleasure.

Happy 4th Birthday to Lyrical Venus!

Lyrical Venus 2011 InterviewsIt's kind of hard to believe it, but it's true, the Lyrical Venus Radio Hour is 4 years old! Four years of great music by and fun interviews with women musicians of many genres.  Thanks to the internet, the connections have been worldwide, whether it's me sending in the show from the multiple states and countries I've visited, or the artists calling in from around the world, or the wonderful listeners tuning in to kruufm.com from a distant corner of the planet!

As has been my annual tradition, I've collected a playlist of songs by the women I've interviewed in the past year, and I will play as many as I can this week, though it will probably need to be split in two parts, since there are 32! Tune in Tuesday from 9-10am Central.

The Least Christmas Show

  • Not that it was intentional but making room for the best music we've played all year leaves little room for anything else. And while Shoegazer is decidedly short on Christmas spirit this week the music for this show and the next will prove ample compensation for any shortcomings of yuletide cheer. The lineup includes superlative tracks (no hyperbole) from The Naked And Famous, Small Black, Beirut, Washed Out, Phantogram, Neon Indian, Bon Iver and many more. Saturday evening at 6 and again Thursday morning at 9. Not to be missed. And a great way to warm up to your Christmas eve celebrations.

Saturday evening at 6 and Thursday morning at 9. It doesn't feel hip to be square.

Shoegazer Dichotomy

This week Shoegazer is a bit disjunctive. We start with some old school indie rock in the vein of Dinosaur Jr. and meld into a strange dance-trance mix including a choir boy singing R&B until finally coming to the surface with some accomplished after-the-party strains- and somehow it all works very well. The list is replete with new music from Surfer Blood, Active Child, Beirut, Oberhofer, Zee Avi, Dum Dum Girls, the Wandas and more, including a track from the best new album this year, The Drums' "Portamento". Saturday evening at 6 and again Thursday morning at 9. Listen for the harp!

Sheri Miller Interview on Lyrical Venus Radio! Tues 9/6

Sheri Miller

You next to me, me next to you
We're perfectly in tune
Curled up in this room
I'm melting into you
We fit like spoons
~ Spoons, Sheri Miller

New York singer-songwriter Sheri Miller has been writing songs since childhood, following her natural instinct to create and express.  Her latest release, Winning Hand, produced by Kevin Killen (U2, Peter Gabriel), is lush and complex, yet easy to relate to both musically and emotionally.  From the uptempo and hooky Spoons to the Bollywood Rock flavored Satellite, Sheri explores matters of the heart with refreshing honesty and a healthy helping of poetic metaphor.

Tune in from 9-10am Central for your weekly concentrated dose of music by women.  We'll kick off with rain songs in hopes of bringing some rain to parched Texas, and we'll hear from Sheri at 9:30!
