Indian Hills StudentsKitchen activity is easy when you have the proper skills, plus it's great to know how to make essential condiments so you don't have to buy the packaged variety.  Mayo and ranch dressing are two perfect examples.  Savannah Strode and Kellie Kuenzler, students in the Indian Hills Culinary Arts program, are going to show us how easy it is to do these two preparations at home.  Your sandwiches, salads, and dips will taste better than ever. 

So what are they going to use the mayo and ranch dressing on?  How about potato salad-two different types for the mayo, and chips and chicken breast strips to go with the ranch.  Perfect for summer fun.

I think they might put their skills in action mixing up some fresh-squeezed lemon and limeade, too.

There is so much going on lately during each show I can't even tell you about my recent eating adventures in Northern California, Las Vegas, and Mt. Vernon, IA.  That's a real teaser.

Our second guest is Lisa Catherine Harper, one half of the editing team, along with Caroline Grant, that put together, The Cassoulet Saved Our Marriage: True Tales of Food, Family, and How We Learn to Eat.  The book brings to the table 29 different writer's perspectives on food, family, and learning to eat.  You will absolutely experience an emotional roller coaster reading this collection of essays, which, in its essence is about nourishing our body and spirit.  Lisa is the author of the award-winning book, A Double Life:  Discovering Motherhood.

We have had numerous shows on raw foods throughout the years, but this one is going to take a little different angle.  Rather than focusing on how to change your entire lifestyle and go raw, or undertaking weeks of cleansing programs, I asked our guests to present easy options for improving our health and eating habits.  The challenge to them was to show us in one hour ways we can enjoy benefits from integrating more raw foods into our diet.

So this week's show is all about fast food, but let's make it raw.  Isha Kinger and Emily Shaw have come up with a few easy principles that we can apply to our daily meal plans.  They'll demonstrate how simple it is to make an ultra delicious and nutritious smoothie,  come up with a main couEmily Shawrse that has all the elements of its Italian roots, but is totally raw, and a dessert to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth.   Plus, they'll discuss other easy to make menu ideas, and some of the reasons why a slight change in diet could prove beneficial.

Isha  is a raw food chef and graduate from the Living Lights Culinary Arts Institute in California.  Also, she earned a certificate in Raw Food Nutrition from The Heath Awareness Centre in India.  Emily has a B. A. in Health and Human Physiology from the University of Iowa and is an aspiring gourmet, raw, vegan chef.

Meredith Leighton is a dietician working for Fresenius Medical Care of North America. Ms. Leighton discusses nutrition and health. She focuses specifically on kidney health as March is National Kidney Health Month.

Paul Dalio is a fourth-year graduate student at the New York University's prestigious School of Film. He is currently working on a project with filmmaker Spike Lee. Paul discusses his work in film and also his experiences dealing with and understanding bi-polar disorder.

Memoirist Amy Boesky on "What We Have"

Amy BoeskyMonica and Caroline welcome Boston College English professor Amy Boesky to Writers' Voices to discuss her memoir of new motherhood and the deep connections of sisters who grew up in the shadow of a family legacy of early death from cancer. This emotionally satisfying memoir shows us what it means to live in the moment when you live with the knowledge that your moments may be all too few. "What We Have" was published by Penguin Books.  Boesky was also one of the principal ghostwriters for the popular young adult series "Sweet Valley High."

Linda Egenes to Talk about "Super Healthy Kids"

Linda and Tom EgenesJoin Monica and Caroline this week on Writers' Voices as we bring back one of our favorite guests, Linda Egenes, to discuss her latest book "Super Healthy Kids: A Parent's Guide to Maharishi Ayuveda,"  coauthored with Dr. Kumuda Reddy.  This is the first book on Maharishi Ayuveda and children, and follows in the footsteps of "For a Blissful Baby: Healthy and Happy Pregnancy with Maharishi Vedic Medicine."
