Straight out of college and with minimal professional dance experience, Kenny headedKenny Pearl from Toronto to New York to follow his passion - modern dance. "The Dance Gods" tells the story of his very successful career.

Kenny danced with the greats - including Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey, even touring Russia, before returning to Toronto to teach dance. And finally, to write his memoir!

pulse

pulsedance...

and don't be distracted...

by the bullets.

brave the hate...

keep on dancing...

and feel that pulse.

dance for the entire hour...

keep the pulse...

alive.

50 years of dance

pharrell williams

this week, a fascinating evolution: the best dance tracks from 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994, 2004, and 2014...

everyone feels the happiness of dancing mindlessly and mindfully, along with pharrell williams' ubiquitous "happy."

50 years ago you danced in your kitchen while singing "dancing in the street." 40 years ago, you might have been dancing in the mirror to "boogie on reggae woman." 30 years ago, things were much the same with "jump" or "all she wants to do is dance." 20 years ago, you had obnoxious fun with "here comes the hotstepper" or an electronica hoe-down with "cotton-eyed joe." 10 years ago, if you lived in brazil you were dancing at the beach, singing luka's "to nem ai."

this year, you have no choice. you have to get "happy."

check out the dance tracks.

50 years of dance (5 years at a time)

you may remember their biggest hit: the ren & stimpy theme. that was the reverend horton heat (pictured), a wild rockabilly band, playing (this week) a horton heatvery wild danceable tune: "400 bucks," the wild tale of money loaned and never repaid.

this week i go chronologically from 50 years ago (bob & earl's "harlem shuffle") to 45 years ago (a semi-obscure dance tune by sly & the family stone) to 40 years ago (stevie wonder) and in each five year increment thereafter (bobbie brown, delerium, infected mushroom, and a square dance by snoop dogg from 2003) to a song just released last week. 50 years, 13 songs, in one hour.
