This week I've got a full hour of music for you to enjoy!

Artists include past guests like Boca Chica, Annie Dressner, ellen cherry, Anna Coogan and Brooke Brown Saracino. There are also plenty of longtime Lyrical Venus favorites, like Melissa Ferrick, Kris Delmhorst, Meg Hutchinson, Dar Williams, Catie Curtis, Lori McKenna, Patty Griffin, Kina Grannis and Girlyman.

Anna Coogan's new album, The Wasted Ocean, is a fresh collection of olde time flavored sea songs, but more the type to row a small wooden boat, wearing a hand-knit woolen sweater misted with salt spray, than the type that stomp around in an eye-patch on a peg leg, sloshing mugs of beer. The songs are deeply atmospheric, layered, and evocative, all while allowing Anna's rich, sweet and honest voice to hold center stage.

She will be performing at Cafe Paradiso on Thursday, Jan 19th with Lauryn Shapter & Dennis James of Truckstop Souvenir, who will be debuting their new side project - The Nameless Sorrows.

As I wrote last week, the Lyrical Venus Radio Hour is 4 years old! Four years of great music by and fun interviews with women musicians of many genres. Thanks to the internet, the connections have been worldwide, whether it's me sending in the show from the multiple states and countries I've visited, or the artists calling in from around the world, or the wonderful listeners tuning in to kruufm.com from a distant corner of the planet!

As has been my annual tradition, I've collected a playlist of songs by the women I've interviewed in the past year, this is part two, since there were 32 artists! Click here for last week's playlist. Tune in Tuesday from 9-10am Central to hear part 2.

Emily Poole and Michael Cantafio are WE, and they are playing two shows at Cafe Paradiso in Fairfield this week (Dec 29th & 30th). And well, I am Me, and I'm playing a show at Cafe Paradiso (tonight, Tues, Dec 27th) too! So this week I'll play a couple by WE, a couple by me, talk about what I've been doing in Austin, and of course I'll play a bunch of great music by women singer-songwriters. Tune in for the live show, anything could happen!

Fairfield musician and creative spark Taylor Ross can be found in several local bands and creative projects in some capacity or another. Among the many hand-knitted hats she wears as a musician is the one of her lovely low-fi music that brings to mind fieldmice and farmlands, bramble bushes, oak trees and fresh baked bread.

Taylor will be coming to the KRUU studios to play us some tunes and tell us the latest happenings at the Beauty Shop, including her show there on Thursday! Tune in from 9-10am to hear from Taylor plus more great music by female singer-songwriters.

Texas songwriter Leslie Krafka was bitten by the songwriting bug after being gifted a songwriting workshop with Terri Hendrix & Lloyd Maines as an anniversary present, simply for the opportunity to hang out with folks she admired. Quickly hooked, Leslie went from from never playing or singing out at all to the world of lessons and putting out an album to winning songwriter contests in five short years!

Brooklyn-based artist Bess Rogers just came out with her fourth independent release, Out of the Ocean. Featuring all the upbeat handclaps, sweet harmonies, indie punk and pop progressions and catchy melodies we've come to love from Bess, the album is also tied together with her fascination with science. Themes of evolution and love are woven together masterfully in an album that is the perfect balance of smart and fun. Bess will be performing at Cafe Paradiso on Oct. 24th with Allison Weiss.
