you may remember their biggest hit: the ren & stimpy theme. that was the reverend horton heat (pictured), a wild rockabilly band, playing (this week) a very wild danceable tune: "400 bucks," the wild tale of money loaned and never repaid.

this week i go chronologically from 50 years ago (bob & earl's "harlem shuffle") to 45 years ago (a semi-obscure dance tune by sly & the family stone) to 40 years ago (stevie wonder) and in each five year increment thereafter (bobbie brown, delerium, infected mushroom, and a square dance by snoop dogg from 2003) to a song just released last week. 50 years, 13 songs, in one hour.

Originally from Fairfield, Aaron is a music producer who’s remixed for major labels and has created amazing original music. Aaron has flown in from LA to perform at the Red Rock this Saturday night and will stop by to showcase his music and talk about what’s trending in the electronic dance music scene. Hilary Jordan and the Fairfield Dance Company return to the Sondheim Center for Fairfield Music: A Dance Gala for two performances, Thursday, March 3 and Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. The performances will be choregraphed to music made by local artists, which of course includes local women! This week on Lyrical Venus we'll hear a few of those songs.

For the second half we'll hear from LA-based artist Jen Hirsh. Her new album, Myself in Two, drops today! Her soulful blending of jazzy, folky pop will have you hooked on the first listen.

The last days of summer are leaving us. But they'll have to take me kicking and resisting arrest.

This week I've got the last dance of the summer, featuring music--chronologically--from the last 50 years.

The beat keeps going for the entire 60 minutes, from Jr. Walker & the Allstars through very modern remixes of Sly & the Family Stone, Eddie Grant, and an absolutely stunning, hypnotic production of David Bowie's "Let's Dance" to the most danceable tracks from MGMT ("Electric feel" and "Kids").

At 11:00 am (Thursday) and 8:00 am (Sunday) you can't exactly be dusting the all-night dance floor, but I do expect to see and hear some kitchen and office floors bouncing up and down to the 120 bpms.
