New Breakbeats, Chillstep & Ambient Electronica

I've got a real chill playlist set up for tonight's edition of The After Hours. We'll start out with some beautiful jazz post-rock from the Serbian quartet EYOT and the amazing album they released last year: Similarity. After that we've got some new chilled-out electronica featuring three albums that just came out in the last month, plus three albums that slipped under my radar last year. Read more about the artists & albums below:

UK-based producer Kamal Manzar aka zarr. Last month he released his debut album: A Wandering Clarity, where he takes the listener on a beautifully introspective journey through some ambient and cinematic electronica.

Russian bassist and producer Anton aka LTF Last month he released his debut album: Light The Fuse, a throwback to the old school hip-hop production style of the 90's. Expect jazzy bass, funky horns and dope beats.

Oakland-based producer an-ten-nae. Earlier this week he released his second studio album: Transmissionswhere he returns with some more delicious chillstep filled with soulful vocals and worldly rhythms.

Best of 2014: Experimental Jazz Edition

2014 is quickly coming to an end, which means it's time to take a look back at some of the great music released this year. On this week's edition of That Righteous Jive, we'll be listening to my favorite experimental jazz of 2014. I've got five different albums from five incredible artists:

5.

Quick Fix. This trio from Saratoga Springs continues to impress me with their combination of jazz, rock & post-bop. This year they released their second album together: Golden Ticket

Math Rock On The After Hours

Math rock is a (mostly) guitar and drum based genre characterized by unusual, complex and frequently shifting time signatures. Kind of like metal but without the vocals and distortion. On this Saturday night's edition of The After Hours we'll be listening to some of my favorite math rock (all instrumental) from the last few years. I'll be featuring Totorro---a quartet from Rennes, France--and the LP they released last April: Home Alone. We'll also hear from Cleft, Suffer Like G Did, Plini and Moon Hooch.

In the last leg of the show we'll be listening to some of my favorite jazz & funk fusion of 2014, courtesy of Omaha Diner, Analog Son and The Blacksmiths. Stream it live June 28th, 10pm-12am CDT right here on KRUU radio.
