Rotarians & Librarian Unite to Encourage Children to Read

Self Above Service: that's the Rotarians' motto. Fostering literacy is a major project this worldwide service organization undertakes. Taking it local, Iowa's Fairfield Rotary Club teamed up with the Fairfield Public Library to host evening children's storytimes. For details about ROTARY READS, tune in this week to The Studio with Cheryl and Rotarian Joshua Laraby and children's librarian Afton Hallauer.

Beth HowardTurn your blog posts into best-selling books! Learn to do that and more at FAIRfest 2014's writing events! Yes! Like Mission Creek in Iowa City, FAIRfest 2014 will offer programs (all free!) for people of all ages who love writing and books! Five creative, wonderful past guests of The Studio created these events.

Saturday, June 21st 11-noon, Beth Howard, the adventure traveler who bakes pies in Eldon's American Gothic House, will share info on how to turn blog posts into best-selling books. From 10-11 AM Saturday, June 21st noted environmentalist, author, and educator, Bruce Hopkins will discuss Truth in The Rivers and lead a sense-of-place writing session. From 2:00-3:00 PM Saturday, June 21st picture book author Jeanette Hopkins will lead a kids' story time replete with singing, dancing, and juggling at the Fairfield Public Library. (Thanks, FPL and Afton Hallauer, for hosting this event!) On Sunday morning, June 22nd Corey Morrow will host FAIRfest's First Annual Write-In at his Earth and Water Tea Lounge and Pottery Shop. Join Cheryl and all five of these generous, creative souls on The Studio with Cheryl this week!
