GREAT TASTE PANEER SHOW w/ SABITA SAWHNEY of SABI'S CAFE

Sabita Sawhney Live on Great TasteIt was a fresh cheeselovers paradise at the LIVE Great Taste show Tuesday night.

Green Building Supply hosted the regular first Tuesday of the month broadcast, and Sabita Sawhney demonstrated how to make paneer simply and quickly at home.  But, since she loves to feed everyone, Sabita also prepared marinated paneer, paneer pakoras, paneer parathas, and coriander/mint chutney.  Rose and cardamom lassi with a touch of coconut sugar was on the beverage menu.

Great Taste Live at Green Building Supply

This week's show is a rebroadcast of the "DOSA" show Sabita did at GBS on a previous GREAT TASTE LIVE.

Sabita will be LIVE on Tuesday, September 5 at GBS for the "PANEER" show.  We hope to see you there at 7:00 pm.

Chef Sabita Sawhney was my special guest chef.  She made amazing dosas, sambar, and coconut chutney, plus plain and potato paratha.  Make certain to have a pen or pencil nearby when you listen.  Sabita does not cook with recipes, but I tried to coax as much information out of her as possible.

Listen to the "Dosa" show this week broadcast on Wednesday at 7:00 pm and again on Friday at 7:00 am.  Next week's LIVE show at GBS will air on KRUU at 7:00 pm Wednesday, September 6, and Friday at 7:00 am, September 8.

Modern Jewish Cooking and Indian Chaat on GREAT TASTE!

Modern Jewish CookingThis week's GREAT TASTE is packed with ethnic food.  The hour begins with my discussion with Leah Koenig, author of the new book Modern Jewish Cooking-Recipes and Custom's for Today's Kitchen.

Just as it sounds, the book is Leah's take on updating the culinary traditions that make up the wide variety of foods associated with Jewish cooking.  I had some important questions to ask her like does cinammon belong in a chocolate babka recipe?

This interview could change your life (or perceptions anyway).  Check out her blog here.

Indian and Columbian Delicacies with Two GREAT Cooks on GREAT TASTE!

Sabi's CafeOther than spending time with family members, the most fulfilling moments for me are when I get to cook, talk, and eat with friends.  I hope you enjoy listening in on the GREAT TASTE conversation this week with Sabitha Sawhney, assistant professor of business at Maharishi University of Management, and proprietor/chef of Sabi's Cafe, and Sonia Vera, a courtroom interpreter who helped us learn some basic Columbian dishes.

Colombian repastSabitha and Sonia's food and philosophies of cooking are both dear to my heart and stomach.  Thanks to Dori Rector and my wife, too for helping out in the kitchen. Dori's Colombian bean soup was extraordinary.  The link to the basic recipe is below, but she added a bit more garlic and salt, a leek, and substituted three whole chipotle chilis for the ham hocks.

The Bread Exchange and Sabita Sawhney this Week on GREAT TASTE

ALERT:  DO NOThe Bread ExchangeT MISS THIS WEEK'S GREAT TASTE RADIO PROGRAM!

Kicking off the show is my visit with fashion model and author, Malin Elmlid.  Malin's new book is The Bread Exchange-tales and recipes from a journey of baking and bartering.

I am not going to talk about Malin's story in the post other than to ask you to listen to her and feel the power of her passion and love for bread and humanity.

Her journey is not only compelling, but she encourages each of us to think about what we have to share, and find a way to do that with our fellow sojourners on this planet.

Sabita Sawhney assisted by Bob BlankenshipOn "Iowa Cooks" we visit with Sabita Sawhney, the owner of Sabi's Cafe in the Golden Gate Building.  The show was part of our monthly "LIVE" series recorded on Tuesday, December 9 before a hungry group at Green Building Supply.  Everybody's Whole Foods provided the ingredients and Sabita taught us how to make parathas. Everyone ate plain, spinach, potato, and paneer parathas until the dough ran out.  You can see the video of the show and watch her make these savory breakfast delicacies at the following URL-http://new.livestream.com/FairfieldMediaCenter/events/3469155-, and thanks to Fairfield Media Center for producing the live stream.

Our next live show at Green Building Supply is Tuesday, January 6 with local cook and musician, Astred Griffin.  The fun starts at 7:00, as Astred teaches us how to make quiche in a wide variety of ways, including a vegan version.  Mark your calendar!

Great Taste was "live" at Green Building Supply in Fairfield. Sabita Sawhney of Sabi's Cafe joined Kathy DuBois and host Steve Boss for an evening of Indian cooking and tasting. [The show is taped before a live audience at GBS every 2nd Tuesday of the month.]

Sabita Sawhney

Noah and friendsYou're going to love spending some "up close and personal" time with Sabita.  She is an absolute delight.

If you can't join us at the "live" recording session, tune in to Great Taste on Wednesday at 7:00 pm or Friday at 7:00 am on KRUU or www.kruufm.com to hear the show.

In the second 1/2 hour you can listen to my recent talk with raw chocoholic and chocolatier Noah Loin of Noah's Raw Chocolate. How sweet it is!!
