the white album that you've never heard

i've been reviewing the music from the year 1968 off and on for the past several months. there was a plethora of lasting, creative music released in that year, and one of the most creative and lasting albums was the beatles double album, euphamistically called "the white album."

jaco pastoriusthis week i'll play the best versions of songs from that album that have been covered by other artists. some covers seem obvious: a mashup i put together of sarah mclachlan's and crosby stills & nash's "blackbird," and a brilliant version of "yer blues" by blues artist lucky peterson.

more surprising is jazz postal servicebassist jaco pastorius' [left] "dear prudence," and the postal service's [right] electronica version of "i will."
