The modern shamans' trance

trance music might be more fully described as "trance-inducing" music. and there's a 5-10,000 year tradition of it. trance has terence mckennalayers of sound and rhythm that systematically take the mind and body to deeper states of reality: it's not for the light-stick waving vagabonds who drink all night and pass out, but for seekers of ecstatic light & insight.

the week's show features music inspired by psychedelic shaman terence mckenna (right), and will include traditional jungle sounds, as well as infected mushroom, shpongle, and former dead drummer mickey hart. but the playlist doesn't really matter. what matters is that you take the time to go within while listening--with your bass up and your mind open.

The modern shamans' dance

The shamanic traditions can facilitate transcendance through refinement of sound and breath.shaman tree  Pulsations of drums, chanting, mantras, rhythms, and breath, lead awareness to progressively subtler forms of sensory experience, beyond ordinary waking and dreaming: visions and pure awareness...

This week I play music that is used by psychotropic pioneer and transpersonal teacher, Stanislav Grof, as an aid to his holotropic breathing practices. The music will create rhythms, silence, and unique internal spaces. The best way to experience it is with headphones or in a silent environment (be sure to stop your car and pull over), breathing deeply and regularly, letting your brainwaves go alpha, beta, and fractal.

The first half of my show will take you up and energize; the second half will bring you back down and harmonize.
