Intensely, Immensely Musical

LC

That's Leonard Cohen

He's been called the poet laureate of pessimism, and the godfather of gloom.

But to those of us who have been fans for decades, his remarkable vision, words and musicality have been amongst the most consistent, fluid and honest in music.

Like a bird on a wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir, it's impossible to stop listening to and dreaming with him. Which is why he'll be our featured artist this week and next.  Hallelujah.

Only at the Wildflowers Cafe

Only on KRUUFM.

2011 Songwriters

leonard cohen

Thanksgiving evening is fairly mellow inherently, and this week's show will fit right in, as I feature 2011 songwriters--songs that will make you want to hear the lyrics and feel the melody because something real is being said.

2011 saw new releases from young voices Adele, TV On The Radio, Jewel, Bright Eyes and Fairfield's David Murphy. Established songwriters also had something to say this year: you'll hear Robbie Robertson (The Band's chief songwriter) sing "The right mistake," Tom Waits' sings 2 songs from his new CD "Bad as me," and the freshest song of the week comes from the oldest voice: Leonard Cohen's [left] "Show me the place," which was released yesterday.

Here's what you'll be hearing.
