have yourself a satisfying secular season

i love the season. and i can't help but love the music of the season.

sara bareillesa lot of great composers have written great songs about this time of the year. songs that have nothing to do with the religious underpinnings of the season. songs like, "winter wonderland," "let it snow," and sara bareilles [left] sparklingly lonely love song "winter song."

then there were the brilliant songs that already existed in the musical world, which were appropriated for the season, like "carol of the bells," "greensleves," and "the holly and the ivy."

for fun i'll play the cocteau twins' "frosty the snoman," the used's "alone this holiday," and "baby it's cold outside" by ray charles and ella fitzgerald, and lady antebellum.

The year 1998 seems like it just went by on the calendar, but it's been 13 long years...

That was the year Barenaked Ladies wowed everyone with "One week." Well, I still go wow, and also with Lenny Kravitz and Joy Drop's brilliant "Beautiful." First I play some hits; and then I get spacey ... with the French duo Air [pictured], the English duo Shpongle, and American guitar soloist Buckethead.
