a chill later summer show, featuring royksopp featuring robyn (from norway, pictured), echophlekz (from the netherlands), shpongle (from the uk), cantoma (from the uk), and ellie goulding (from the uk).
every song has a little extra funk in its chill beat, and some chill in its funk.
and every song will keep your energy chilled and blissful.
the tracks.
no need to wait for the next full moon at the depot brewery.
thursday night and sunday morning: 2 hours of bass-heaving drum circle songs. some great songs with great beats.
beat something, crank it up, and play with em.
as winter lingers, thursday night (and sunday morning) will be one last time to put the last of the logs on, close your eyes and go deep within.... this week's music will help you transcend.
i'm featuring the deepest trippiest, and most musical and magical musique from british producer ott, austrian duo tosca, british magicians shpongle, norwegian duo royksopp, and (a beautiful modern version of a classique piece by) french ambient composer claude debussy.
these are musical journeys that you won't want to miss.
start with a transcendental vision. wrap that around the cosmic pulsating rhythms of creative electronic trance, with organic and pranic world beats, creative keyboards and guitars, occasionally elegant and sweet vocals, and an overall feel for the unknown, and you've got shpongle.
shpongle is the brain and heart child of simon posford--classically trained brit, producer, writer, keyboards, and guitarist, and raja ram--psychedelic pioneer from australia, flutist, and all-around ambience-maker.
and better still, they'll be in des moines on march 23rd.
as the title of their 2nd cd asks, one should always ask oneself--in the jimi hendrix sense--"are you shpongled"? soon you will be.
appearing with shpongle (on my show and in concert) is desert dwellers. an amazing, psyambient band with a equally cosmic sound.
thursday night...sunday morning...
tripped out sounds from 2003...
featuring shpongle ("around the world in a tea daze"), carbon based life forms ("exosphere"), infected mushroom ("jeenge"), tosca ("gute jaune"), an instrumental version of a song by muse ("ruled by secrecy"), and more...
lay back, tune in, turn up...
the songs...
i'm interrupting my pre-scheduled programming this week to share some breaking musical news with you: the absolute freshest release from british uncategorizable duo, shpongle.
shpongle is psy-trance-ambient producer and dj, simon posford, and 72 year old raja ram who plays flute and helps keep the world beat flowing.
flowing through all their music is a deep, profound, psychedelic and cosmic wave of deep humor and consciousness.
electronic-based but never mechanical or electrical sounding... shpongle's "museum of consciousness" is as melodic as mysterious. as free-form spacey as hypnotic.
enough political banter; time to dance through the election, and beyond, with music from 2005 that will keep your heart pulsing rapidly--but in a good way.
this week, i start off the show with some easy-going dance tunes from 2005 (american satoshi tomiie, filipino/american greenskeepers, french electroniquistes daft punk, french production wiz bob sinclair [left] and singer gary pine, eclectic gorillaz, brazilian luka), then slow down and space things out a little bit (with finnish band kirpi and a 2005 melody from mccartney), and then space-hop til you drop (italian slok, british psych-trancers shpongle--especially their "levitation nation"), before dropping you back to the leaf pile with uk's goldfrapp.
it's a wordly dance experience from 2005. the tracks.
"Techno" is a tricky word. It has too many associations for too many people. The same with "electronica." It would be wrong to say that Shpongle and Infected Mushroom carry very many of those associations, even though they are frequently--and accurately--characterized as both. So I call them "evolved electronica/dance."
This week I'm playing some of Mushroom's most interesting and accessible music, demonstrating that in addition to dance-masters, they are great composers, musicians, and arrangers.
Shpongle is the British duo Simon Posford (aka Hallucinogen) and Raja Ram (no, not that one).
Here's what you be hearing: playlist.
Only 5 years ago, the year 2005 had some breakthrough music.
British semi-real act Gorillaz released some great tracks on their CD "Demon Days"; I'll play "Feel good inc" which balances the melancholy vocals of Daman Albarn with the powerful rap of De La Soul
The UK electronic band Shpongle [left] released a surprisingly melodic and joyful CD, "Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland."
Best track: "Levitation nation."Bob Sinclair's "Love generation" will play in your head for the rest of the day.
