Sen. Becky SchmitzAndre Perry, executive program director of the EnglertMs. Sandy Greiner Theater in Iowa City, speaks with Planet Erstwild host James Moore about upcoming events there, including the Max Weinberg Big Band on October 22 and Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake & Palmer in early November. Andre also books muscial acts for the Mill in Iowa City. He is a musician himself and singer/songwriter with the Lonelyhearts, as well as an author with a graduate degree in Nonfiction Writing Program from the University of Iowa.

At 2:45pm, KRUU will broadcast the IA Senate forum with Democratic incumbent Becky Schmitz and Republican challenger Sandy Griener, recorded this week at the Sondheim Center and moderated by Chamber Executive Director Brent Willet.

David BerkeleyAnother mindblowing Planet Erstwild, folks. Last weekend KRUU made ice cream to honor our listeners. This week the treats continue. In the studio live at 4:15pm to perform and talk about his storied career, we have singer/songwriter David Berkeley. The Harvard grad's influences include Paul Simon, Nick Drake, Neil Young, The Band, Elliott Smith and Jerry Garcia. He insists, though, that most of his inspiration derives from poetry, passages of prose, people (his parents and his wife and son especially), the outdoors, art and most forms of visual images. He has been compared to James Taylor, David Gray, Jackson Browne and Cat Stevens. Berkelely is performing at Cafe Paradiso Friday night, September 17th.

Matt HooverAt 2:15pm, Biggest Loser Matt Hoover is interviewed by Monica Hadley and Cherly Fusco Johnson. Cast to be on the NBC show, “The Biggest Loser 2″. Hoover arrived at the Biggest Loser Ranch in March of 2005 weighing 339 pounds. He won a grand prize of $250,000.00 by losing 157 pounds in nine months. The Iowa native returns to his home state to speak at the Wellness Convention in Fairfield on September 25.

At 3pm, James speaks with Fairfield Film Festival director Anya Petrova about this weekend's showing of the Iowa premiere of COUNTDOWN TO ZERO, a film about nuclear weapons, at the Sondheim Center, Sunday through Tuesday at 7:15pm. This is the second installment of FFF's 5-month Think Global film series.
