The Silence 2

Thursday and Sunday's shows are about silence.air

I found music and artists--from all styles and genres--who express silence in and inbetween the notes.

This week's music ranges from classical (Isao Tomita plays the music of Debussy) to Chick Corea's jazz group Return To Forever, and French electronic duo Air (left).

Not to be missed is the downtempo, space arrangement of Sarah McLachlan's "Silence," and surprise guest appearances from Johann Sebastian Bach and Aaron Copland.

Summer Silence

kinobe

Today's music is for deep, soul satisfying relaxation: music with some silence in or between the notes. The musicians stir the silence; the listener has it enlivened.

But this is no mood-making show.

The British electronic duo Kinobe get the bliss flowing with "Slip Into Something More Comfortable"--a song that you swear you've heard before. Something that sounds familiar and at the same time creatively unique.

Ambient electronica isn't the only genre represented today. Johann S. Bach, Claude Debussy, Gabriel Faure, and Aaron Copland all have created some brilliant and beautiful silence in their music, as have Donovan and Enya.

Once the music starts, I keep it going in one continuous flow, with no commercial or other interruptions, and no pauses for artificial silence. This week the silence is in the music.
