6:30pm Republican Hopeful Rick Santorum talks with Dennis Raimondi at KRUU

Yesterday Republican presidential hopeful Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania stopped by KRUU studios to record a brief interview with SPEAKING FREELY's Dennis Raimondi. This was the second time he's been to Fairfield. He has visited all 99 counties in Iowa. Accompanying the senator was his daughter, a college student who attends school in Texas.

Other presidential hopefuls in the vicinity: Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann was also in Fairfield but unable to do an interview. Texas Congressman Ron Paul was in Mount Pleasant campaigning. He has spoken with KRUU 2-3 times in the past but not yet this cycle.

Steve King is the U.S. Representive for Iowa's 5th congressional district, serving since 2003. He is a member of the Republican Party. King is considered an outspoken fiscal and social conservative.

After winning the 2002 Republican nomination, he said that he intended to use his seat in Congress to "move the political center of gravity in Congress to the right."

PHILIPPE PETIT, subject of this year's Academy Award Winner for Best Documentary Film, Man on Wire. The man who on the morning of August 7, 1974, rigged 200 feet of 3/4" steel cable between the twin towers of the World Trade Center and walked between them repeatedly, lying down at one point and making eight crossings in all.
