"I love Fairfield. People are open and accepting."

"It’s not easy to pigeon-hole the Iowa based Dylan Sires and Neighbors. They definitely have a solid command of melody in the tradition of power pop, and are influenced by The Beatles, Vampire Weekend and 50′s styled balladry."  --Powerpopaholic | "Sires’ sound is a delightful mash-up: Beatles-esque harmonies, rhythm syncopation ala Modest Mouse, and guitars that hail from all over. Yes, if your normal bill of goods is something harder and faster, Sires’ pop sensibilities will come off as milquetoast. But variety is the spice of life, folks."  --Chad Taylor Des Moines Cityview magazine

Carla & Chuck OffenburgerNOT TO BE MISSED!!

A delightful, wide-ranging discussion about life as a storyteller in Iowa, the uniqueness of Fairfield, the state of jourmalism, and much more with Iowa treasure Chuck Offenburger, longtime former columnist for the Des Moines Register. Currently semi-retired, living on a farm he rehabbed in Cooper, Iowa, Chuck's been writing and sharing stories the last 15 years on his own website offenburger.com with wife Carla.

His tribute in honor of the passing of colorful centenarian & Fairfield icon Lee Gobble ["It's g-g-g goodbye: Fairfield memorializes its grandest character"] was a touching, funny, warm-hearted, insightful portrait and a wonderful snapshot of the town whose universities, Parsons and MUM, evolved from "Flunkout U" to "Unusual U".

Drawing on their formal jazz training and years of experience in the Iowa City music scene, Jack Lion is crafting a sound that is primarily ambient/electronic but influenced by improvised music. "I like to sample things onstage, and the band often improvises around the samples to create new sections of the song on the fly," explains Smith. "This gives the audience something unique every night and creates an interesting challenge for us."

Jack Lion has already recorded a Daytrotter session and performed at the Mission Creek Festival in Iowa City. The band is set to release the JAC EP in the summer of 2014, followed by a supporting tour in the fall. "I've never been so energized by a musical project" Morton says. “This is a now-or-never moment. I don’t anticipate playing in another band with the chemistry, artistry, and vision like that of Jack Lion."

Jack Lion is Brian Lewis Smith on trumpet, keyboard, and production, Drew Morton on bass, keyboard, and vocals, and Justin LeDuc on drumset and SPDS.
