At 7:30 PM on Sunday, April 7th the McFarland Gaub Violin and Piano Duo will perform three Johann Brahms sonatas at the Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts. Tune in to hear bits of each sonata and Nancy and Gene's discussion of how each one is unique. They'll also give us their predictions about the future of classical music.
Gene and Nancy, husband and wife, are both faculty members in Grinnell College's Music Department. As a pianist, Gene made his New York debut performing Bartok's First Piano Concerto with the Juilliard Orchestra at Lincoln Center. He's given solo piano recitals at Carnegie Hall and many other venues. He's also performed with orchestras in Vienna and Salzburg. A specialist in chamber music, he's performed with many ensembles throughout the U.S.

They've embarked on a 100-day road trip across America in a diesel-powered Mercedes searching out local sustainability success stories and decided to drop by solar KRUU. Before their gig tonight, band members, Joel Schneider and Ethan Jacobsen, stopped by to perform live in the KRUU studio. Giving a taste of their special distillation of rock, blues and punk.
Up and coming five piece indie folk-rock act, Wheeler Brothers, came through Fairfield on Thursday, July 21st for a performance at The Beauty Shop.
The band stopped by the KRUU-FM studio to perform a few fantastic acoustic renditions of their songs.
Formed in Austin, Texas, each member brings his own ideas and sounds to the group, with styles blending indie rock, blues and folk.
Children's book author, Kathy Brodsky, makes a visit to Writers' Voices this week. Her most recent book, "The Winner Is...", tells the humorous story of a dog who tries to be someone else in order to win a contest. Her other books include, "My Bent Tree", "The Inside Story", "Just Sniffing Around" and "Purrsnikitty". Having worked as a psychotherapist for almost 40 years, Kathy has a wealth of material to draw upon for her work.
Joseph Tiefenthaler will also be a guest on this Writers' Voices. He will be discussing the many literary events that are part of the Mission Creek Festival, in Iowa City.
Marie Lehrer talks about her work with Rise-Africa, a nonprofit she founded and the upcoming event A Night for Africa, Friday, June 18th at 7:30pm at Argiro Center on MUM campus. This benefit concert is to help Africans lift themselves out of poverty through micro-loans, sustainable agriculture and fair living conditions.
2:30pm/ James speaks with Las Vegas producer/promoter Adam Steck, CEO of Steck Productions International Entertainment, about his work and some reflections on growing up in Fairfield. Adam brought one of his 5 shows currently featured in Vegas to Fairfield last year, the country's most successful male revue, The Thunder from Down Under.
3pm/ Enjoy another segment with Mike Ragogna who blogs for the Huffington Post and recently performed in the musical HAIR. Ragogna has been involved in many facets of the music business since he was 14 in Manhattan.
