Prof. Marc Falkoff, Editor of "Poems from Guantanamo", Mon at 6:30am CST
"At last Guantanamo has found its
voice."--Gore Vidal
Since 2002, 775 men have been held as unlawful enemy combatants at Guantanamo.
Did you know:
-fewer than half of the detainees are accused of committing any hostile act against the US or its allies?
-only 8% are accused of being al Qaeda fighters?
-only 5% were picked up on the battlefield in Afghanistan fighting US troops?
-only one man has been convicted of a crime? (He was released to his home country to serve an 8-month sentence.)
-only one other man has actually been charged?
Marc Falkoff is an assistant professor at the Northern Illinois
University College of Law and attorney for 17 Guantanamo prisoners. He
is editor of Poems from Guantanamo: The Detainees Speak published by University of Iowa Press just out this past week.

This collection gives voice to the men held at Guantanamo, only
available because of the tireless efforts of pro bono attorneys who
submitted each line to Pentagon scrutiny.

Planet Erstwild's James Moore conducted a live phone interview with Professor Falkoff. Hear a firsthand account of one lawyer's attempt to seek justice in a twilight zone and give voice to souls lost in a black hole.
