Every music geek in the world has at least one band that they think deserves wider recognition. As regular I.W.H. listeners (both of them) know by now, mine is NRBQ.
It's a minority opinion, of course, but that minority includes, Pa
ul McCartney, Keith Richards, Bonnie Raitt and Elvis Costello, among many others. If you've never heard of them you can read a quick synopsis here:

In addition to their brilliant original songs, over the course of thirty-five years (1969-2004) and more than thirty albums, the Q have demonstrated their almost insanely eclectic nature by recording cover versions of material by artists ranging from Thelonius Monk and Sun Ra to Johnny Cash, Big Joe Turner and The Chipmunks, not to mention TV themes, polkas, obscure novelty records and anything else that caught their attention, always giving each song a unique treatment that only they could have come up with.
I'll be playing original versions and NRBQ versions back-to-back for the entirety of this week's Whizbang. As one reviewer put it, "If you don't like NRBQ, it's because you've never heard them."
