James Moore talks with Koplant_ No saxophonist Joel Vanderheyden on a live call-in interview Thursday at 1pm CST.

Based out of Iowa City, Joel and Koplant_No, will be performing in Fairfield this Saturday, March 13th at 8pm in Morning Star Studio on the square.

The group is a forward-thinking ensemble that incorporates elements of jazz, electronic music, and progressive rock, and whose influences include Radiohead, Telefon Tel Aviv, Michael Brecker, Beck, J Dilla, Garbage Factory and Happy Apple.

The band features Brian Lewis Smith on trumpet and laptop, Drew Morton on bass, Rob Baner on drums and samples, and Joel Vanderheyden on saxophone.  They have been developing their unique sound since 2007, and sharing their addictive flavor of music with diverse audiences in a variety of venues, from traditional jazz clubs (The Artists’ Quarter in St. Paul) to cutting-edge rock clubs (The Elbo Room in Chicago).  Saxophonist Joel Vanderheyden's debut album on the Mize Music label, Complete Life, features Koplant_No.
