FRINGE TOAST - Classic TEN YEARS AFTER band - Wed., 12/02/09 at 8pm CT

ten years afterShortly after Tonto's Expanding Head Band introduced synthesizers to rock music in 1971, Alvin Lee and Ten Years After (photo left),raw sienna experimented with acoustic-electronic arrangements. In this week's show, DJ Andy Bargerstock features TYA music from 1971 LP, A Space in Time. From the same era, Savoy Brown (photo right) will feature two tracks with Chris Youlden's vocals from 1970 LP, Raw Sienna. These two LPs display amazing creative flow and sophistication. Tune in early to join the jam.

When the ladies take the stage with a more contemporary sound, you will hear Anais Mitchell, Caroline Aiken, Sloan Wainwright, and Ane Trolle (with band Trentemoller). The traditional chill-out session in the second hour will feature new artists including ATB (with Heather Nova), Lemongrass, Pepe Deluxe, and Portishead (with their hauntingly good composition, Roads, from Dummy CD). Portishead is a strange band with a few very very good tracks. Trust your Fringe Toast Meister to lead you in the right direction. The program concludes with contemporary UK progressive-psychedelic band, Porcupine Tree, performing "Glass Arm Shattering". Click here for playlist.

Thank you for this article.. Haven't heard most of these, though I'm a big fan of Portishead. What are they up to these days? Haven't heard any new stuff from them in years.. -Amy from Breville BOV800XL
