Gifted cellists Eleanor Wells and Charles Lee return to Fairfield from Boulder, Colorado for a special performance on Sunday, November 22nd at 7:30pm in the beautiful Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts to benefit KRUU-LP 100.1 FM, Fairfield's solar-powered, independent, grassroots community radio station. Special guest pianist Christopher Zemliauskas will also be featured.
Last year over 300 audience members delighted to the mellifluous musicality and refined power of the husband-wife team who perform with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. A very special evening is planned that will include compositions by Samuel Barber and Benjamin Britten, among others.
Eleanor, who was born in Adelaide, Australia and grew up in Fairfield. graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts in 1995, earned a Bachelor of Music from the CU Boulder, and a Master of Music from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is pursuing a doctorate of musical arts at CU Boulder. Currently a member of Central City Opera, Colorado Ballet and the Boulder Philharmonic, Ms. Wells has been a member of the Boulder Arts Academy for the last four years and performs extensively with chamber ensembles throughout the United States.
Charles received his Bachelor of Arts in Composition from the Eastman School of Music, his Masters in Music from Temple University, and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He is currently the principal cellist of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra and performs frequently with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Ballet, and the Central City Opera, in addition to chamber music and recital performances. Also featured will be special guest pianist Christopher Zemliauskas who is the Assistant Musical Director of the Opera Program at CU-Boulder. Before coming to Colorado, Christopher worked as Resident Artist Conductor for the Minnesota Opera in Minneapolis. Other companies he has been involved with include San Francisco Opera, Opera Colorado, and Indianapolis Opera. Christopher holds degrees in Piano Performance and Accompanying and Coaching, and has studied with such esteemed collaborators as Margo Garrett, Warren Jones, Karl Paulnack, and Martin Katz. He recently married Elle's sister, Catherine Wells, whose interpretive dance performance was featured in last year's classical benefit concert.
