Keelan Dimick is a jazz pianist who recently graduated from Arts West High School in Boise, ID.
Keelan has won numerous awards including first place in piano in both the junior and senior divisions at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. He also took first place at the Gene Harris Festival.This fall he will be heading to New York City to attend the Manhattan School of Music, where he was offered one of only three piano positions handed out annually at the prestigious school. Keelan will performing a benefit concert for KRUU LP 100.1 FM at the Sondheim Center for the performing arts Monday

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Hollywood is making its way to southeast Iowa.

The Lights Camera Iowa! Southeast Iowa Filmakers Workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 27 at Chadwick Library on the Iowa Wesleyan College campus.

Participants will learn what it takes to get started in the film and entertainment industries from seasoned industry professionals.

A general session will provide an overview of the types of careers that exist in the film industry along with opportunities for people to enter those fields.

Hair and makeup, acting and production careers will be presented in separate break-out sessions.

Guest presenters include hair and makeup professional Kerry Herta, writer and actor Mark Fauser and film production specialist Brian Frankish.

Herta will present a session on hair and makeup for film and TV. For 18 years, Herta has built a reputation as an outstanding hair and makeup professional. She has accumulated more than 100 film, television and print credits.

Fauser will teach participants basic acting principles and explain different kinds of acting. He has worked with many stars in his career, including Jimmy Stewart, Billy Bob Thorton, Hillary Swank, Charlize Theron and Burt Reynolds. He is executive director of the Community School of the Arts in Marion, Ind.

Frankish will discuss the various kinds of work that are done behind the scenes: production, producing, directing and crew work. He has decades of experience in the entertainment business, and his film credits include "Field of Dreams," "Stuart Little," "Righteous Kill" and "The Crazies."

Event partners include Film Southeast Iowa, Iowa at Work, Iowa Wesleyan College and Southeastern Community College.

Registration forms are available at area businesses, SCC, IWC and area Chambers of Commerce.

Registration is $50 and includes attendance, materials and lunch.

People may also register at the door for $65.
