Admittedly, I can be a little slow sometimes. Especially when it comes to getting through all of the many projects on my plate. This is also true for radio because I tend to get a lot of amazing music submissions so it can take me a really long time to get around to listening to them. I have a whole box of CDs at my office that I have yet to sift through.
Tonight I came across a couple nifty gems in that box. One CD was from The Grams, pictured left, who probably mailed me their music several months ago. Upon hearing their track Via Katalin I was pretty intrigued. I have learned not to have expectations with bands, but I just can't help it some times. The folksy persian sound coming out of that song was not at all what I expected and it was a delightful surprise. Not surprising is that The Grams have been nominated a few times for Best Americana act in San Diego and won the title in 2006 & 2007.
I'll be playing a bunch of stuff Saturday night, and will definitely have Via Katalin in the mix. It has the quality of a film score, as do many of the music submissions that I receiv (hmmm... a side effect of working with the David Lynch Foundation perhaps?). Very likely. But for whatever reason they come to Eden's Hour, I am not complaining.
Another song that I was listening to tonight was Caterpillar Dreams by Minotaure. Caterpillar Dreams has a very whimsical, bird-like quality that kind of took me on an imaginary journey through a Brazilian rainforest. In addition to the music on his blog, he also has a vast collection of paintings and drawings.
Also included in this show will be music submissions from the following catchy bands: The Trembling, "K"itty, and 5th
Projekt.
Yay for independence!
