The Legend of Eva Cassidy

Singer and guitarist, Eva Cassidy, languished in relative obscurity through her entire life. She spent her days working at a plant nursey and her nights performing in small clubs in the Washington DC area.  Refusing to have her musical style pigeon holed and commercialized she turned down several offers for recording contracts, including one from Blue Note.

In 1996, Eva was diagnosed with advanced stages of cancer. She died several months later at the age of 33.

Eva specialized in interpretations of other people's songs and a few years after her death a UK radio station began to play her version of Over the Rainbow. It became a national sensation and her albums have since sold several million copies in Europe. Her recording legacy consists mainly of live performances with a few collaborations and self produced studio sessions mixed in.
