- Generation whY - 20140410 - Tori Porell

Join host, Andrew Tint as he highlights the issues facing Generation Y.

This week Generation whY is joined by Tori Porell from Students for Justice in Palestine. The Northeastern organization was recently suspended after handing out mock eviction notices. We bring in Tori Porell to discuss what happened to their organization, where this pressure is coming from, and why getting suspended might have been the best thing for free speech. (Please note: The views expressed in this episode are not those of KRUU-FM.)

Northeastern University Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) works to raise awareness about the plight of Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza, and inside Israel. Their mission as students living in a democracy is to promote the cause of justice and speak out against oppression and occupation. Their goal is to raise awareness about this issue and provide students with alternative resources of information than the mainstream media. SJP will also work to provide a comfortable environment where students and faculty can discuss and debate their diverse views on the various aspects of Palestinian politics and society. They do not support violence in the region and will highlight the Palestinians; non-violent efforts for peace. SJP supports and engages in the Global Boycott, Divestment, and Sanction (BDS) campaign and believe this it is the fundamental course of action necessary for a just peace. They hope that one day Palestinians will be free from occupation and will be able to determine their own fate as an independent nation living peacefully with its neighbors.

Generation whY explores the issues facing Millennials. The concerns confronting the millennial generation affect more than just a select few- the entire nation is deeply impacted by the tribulations of Generation Y as they come of age. Join Andrew as he discusses a wide range of topics that include; student loan debt, internships, social media, and more. His guests will include OURTIME.org co-founder Matt Segal, The host of the David Pakman show David Pakman, and more.
