So I just learned that Boards of Canada--a downtempo electronic duo between two brothers from Scotland--are finally releasing their fourth studio album (after 8 long years of silence), Tomorrow's Harvest. They're one of the first downtempo/trip-hop bands I ever got into, and I'm excited to see what direction they'll take on this next album (planned to come out June 11 in the US).

It's early into 2013 but we've already seen the release of some great electronic albums. On this Tuesday's edition of That Righteous Jive we're going to be listening to five of my favorite trip-hop and downtempo albums that have come out so far this year. We'll start off with some Bonobo, a downtempo DJ from the UK, from his album that he released just last month: The North Borders. After that we're going to hear from the Parov Stelar Trio, an electro-swing group from Austria based around DJ Parov Stelar. Stelar performs live with vocalist Cleo Panther, saxophonist Markus Ecklmayr (aka Max the Sax), and trumpeter Jerry Di Monza, among others. We're going to check out the album they released last March: The Invisible Girl. Then we'll hear from Emancipator, a downtempo DJ from Portland, off his album that he released last January: Dusk to Dawn. After that we'll be checking out some TOKiMONSTA, an electronic music producer from LA, off of her album she released last month: Half Shadows. Last but not least, we'll be listening to Jaga Jazzist, an electro-jazz band from Norway, performing live with Britten Sinfonia, a 26-piece chamber orchestra, off of their album Live with Britten Sinfonia which comes out tomorrow (though I've managed to find a copy which leaked early). Check it out 5-6pm CTZ this Tuesday right here on KRUU radio.
