it's time to mash some of your favorite songs together.

mashups are like carefully constructed genetic accidents: some clever god with a good ear and mixing software takes the elements of one song and combines them with another song--matching the beats, key, and whenever possible, chord changes--and produces a hybrid with the best of both dna samples. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (great hype was written about "the grey album"--a mashup of tracks from the beatles "white album" and jay-z'seminem "black jimmy pagealbum"--but i didn't think it worked).

most of the producers who do the production toil in uncompensated anonymity. this week they get their due, if not their dues.

the first weird combination is eminem [left] and led zeppelin [right]. take the hard-edged riffs of led zep and the gritty spit of slim shady and the result is...well, riffy spit or something like that. ok, get the idea?
