The All Things Italian Street Festival is set for Saturday, June 16 on the Fairfield square. Italian-themed activities start at 9 am leading up to the festival kickoff at 5:00 pm. Madonnnari street chalk artists, authentic Italian dance, bocce ball are all part of the authentic Italian experience provided by the festival organizers, SOFIA, the Society of Fairfield Italian Americans.
Of course, GREAT TASTE is about the food. Join us to get the lowdown on that as the festival's godfather, Dick DeAngelis, Lenora Boyle, and Virginia Rocha dish out all the details about the homemade lasagna, fresh-filled cannoli, biscotti, and more. One new highlight is authentic Napoletana-style pizza cooked in a portable wood-fired oven. Scott Coldiron, the owner and chef of Vesuvius in Ames will be tossing the thin-crust beauties and cooking them to order right on the square in his 900 degree portable oven. At 5:00 pm Scott will demonstrate the key elements to making this treasured pizza style born in 15th century Naples.
