David Roback is my main topic of interest in this edition of Centripetal Sounds. David has played guitar with bands like Clay Allison, Rain Parade, Rainy Day, Opal, and Mazzy Star. I can't say whether he is technically proficient or not, but I do know that he has a way of wrenching acts of God out of whatever he is playing. I have heard the phrase 'He owns that guitar!' and it fits. First up is 'Early Recordings' by Opal. It took me many years of serious hunting before I found an affordable copy of this record. Many songs on this disc are acoustic precursors to great electric versions on later efforts. We will also hear from the self titled Rain Parade release and their disc 'Explosions in The Glass Palace'. Plus 'Happy Nightmare Baby', and 'So Tonight That I Might See'. The band names change but the distinctive guitar work happliy goes on and on. Hear what all the buzz is about! The G Man
