James Moore speaks with two key people in Fairfield who are working in the area of alcohol abuse which is alarmingly high in our area. Jefferson County ranks #2 out of 99 Iowa counties in incidences of underage  binge drinking.

Don Sander is the Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant Coordinator for Jefferson County, a program that is under the auspices of the Iowa Department of Public Health. Aideen Vega-Van Aucken is the SPF SIG Local Epidemiological Work Group Chair, a part-time position that deals primarily with statistics gathering and reporting. They are both part of the Jefferson County Alcohol Consumption Task Force.

On Thursday, April 12th at 6pm at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center, a community-wide meeting on this crucial subject, complete with a panel of experts, will take place. Food will be offered starting at 5:30pm and door prizes are being supplied by scores of area businesses. Everyone is warmly invited to learn about what's going on, what's being done and how the community can help deal with binge drinking, which is high not only for under age drinkers but adults as well.
