Grammy Award-winning Artist Kathy Mattea, Thursday 10 a.m.

Kathy Mattea

Howdy Folks.

This week on Crooked Sisters Radio Hour I have the honor of broadcasting an interview with two-time Grammy Winner and two-time Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year, Kathy Mattea.

Kathy joined me by phone prior to the release of her latest album, Coal, and shared with me her thoughts on the musical journey that brought her to this very roots-based collection of songs, mountain top removal mining, and environmental and social justice in her home state of West Virginia.

The rest of the show will be dedicated to the art of coal mining songs, as sung by Hazel Dickens, Gillian Welch, Loretta Lynn and many, many more.

So join me, your host Lauryn Shapter, this Thursday from 10 until noon, for a conversation with Kathy Mattea and a musical tribute to life in coal mining country.

Kathy Mattea - A Diamond From This Coal

When I heard Kathy's music it gave me chills from it's soulful authenticity. Kathy has a gift that produces ripples of resonance in the universe. I mentioned in my i-tunes comment that I had taken a class from her and she inspired me to write and record my own songs, which are now on i-tunes on my album called "Mama Loose". She is a jewel.
