This week on Gravel Road Radio, I'm scheduled to interview bassist Alan Anton of the Cowboy Junkies. Alan and the band are performing this Friday, March 28th at The Englert Theater in Iowa City.
"The Trinity Session", the Junkies seminal sophmore album, was release 20 years ago and the band recently marked the anniversary with "Trinity Revisited". Joined by Ryan Adams, Vic Chestnutt, and Natalie Merchant, the band returned to Trinity Church and to the songs that were recorded 20 years ago.
We'll talk about this highly regarded album, 2 decades of artistically relevant music, and maybe even hockey.
Tune in to Gravel Road Radio every Tuesday from 2-5 pm Central.
The Starlings
Dennis James will be interviewing the Starlings today on Gravel Road Radio at 3pm. They are playing tonight at 9pm at the Mill in Iowa City.
Having captured the ears of fans both in the Northwest and beyond following their 2006 release of debut album “Songbook”. Based out of Seattle, The Starlings have had a successful 2006: accolades from notable sources as Maverick Magazine and Americana UK; a live appearance on renowned radio station KEXP's Audioasis; eight weeks on John Richards’ (KEXP) “Top Ten Northwest Bands”; prominent performances shared with the likes of Todd Snider, The Avett Brothers, Michelle Malone, and numerous NW artists. Featured in a 2-page spread in the March 2007 issue of Maverick Magazine (UK), The Starlings are bringing their blend of Americana country and folk music to an ever broader stage, garnering fans from all corners of the musical spectrum. read more »
