We're back up with the new drive. All is well. Tune in and check it out.

The live stream has been struggling with a failing hard drive. We've received a new drive to swap out so it will be taken down for a few hours this afternoon. We appreciate you listening & we'll have it back up ASAP.

Saturday (7/31/10) was supposed to be a quick vault upgrade. It's been in the works for some time as we've slowly been running out of space & using a power hungry AMD64 CPU. 10 HDD bays are currently being used, 2 for OS & 8 for Storage with a total of 1.4TB in raidz ZFS configuration leaving 4 free HDD bays. OS used is FreeBSD 8.0 amd64.

The motherboard has recently been upgraded to a dual core 64-bit Atom flex-atx motherboard. The board only has 2 SATA ports, 2 PCI slots & 1 PCI-e x1 slot. We have PCI SATA controllers so the current setup could continue to function leaving the problem of additional ports for the upgrade. The PCI-e x1 slot also causes a small problem as most cards require a x4 slot so the options for cards are limited.

We have had success with the Promise FastTrak series of SATA controller cards so I hastily ordered a TX4650. This model wasn't specifically mentioned in the FreeBSD documentation because it refers to chipset model (I believe), ie PDC20xxxx. I mistakenly thought it was listed but after it was installed it was not recognized. Turns out the CORRECT chipset model for this card is PDC42819.

This is the new announcement system. It may not show all text (specified by (more) )so use the arrows in the bottom right to scroll through the entire message.

Sorry for the late notice but the live stream might be down for a short while between 10PM & 11PM CST tonight. With the recent webserver failure, we thought it would be a good time to rethink some systems & upgrade where possible. The streaming server is being replaced with a more efficient low power solution & fits great into our backup scheme. With any luck it will you should barely notice it.
