Math Rock On The After Hours

Math rock is a (mostly) guitar and drum based genre characterized by unusual, complex and frequently shifting time signatures. Kind of like metal but without the vocals and distortion. On this Saturday night's edition of The After Hours we'll be listening to some of my favorite math rock (all instrumental) from the last few years. I'll be featuring Totorro---a quartet from Rennes, France--and the LP they released last April: Home Alone. We'll also hear from Cleft, Suffer Like G Did, Plini and Moon Hooch.

In the last leg of the show we'll be listening to some of my favorite jazz & funk fusion of 2014, courtesy of Omaha Diner, Analog Son and The Blacksmiths. Stream it live June 28th, 10pm-12am CDT right here on KRUU radio.

More New Jazz & Funk Of 2014

On today's edition of That Righteous Jive I'll be playing some more of my favorite jazz, soul and funk (all instrumental) from 2014. On the roster we've got:

do Dna, an experimental jazz-funk quartet from Slovakia, last March they released their debut EP: DNA.

The Blacksmiths, a funk, blues and soul quartet from Montreal, last March they released their epynomous debut album.

Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, a big band jazz ensemble from Los Angeles, last May they released a new LP: Life Inside The Bubble.

Organ Explosion, a jazz-funk trio from Germany, earlier this month their epynomous debut album was released in the USA (came out in April overseas).

Electro-Blues and Gospel On The After Hours

I've got another great set of mind-bending and genre-blending music for your brains to digest on this Saturday night's edition of The After Hours. We'll be listening to some of my favorite Dj's and producers to have mix & mashed blues and gospel with electronica. From instrumental hip-hop, to house, to dub-step, the styles will change but the sample-base remains the same. I'll be featuring French producer Nicolas Repac and the LP he released last year: Black Box. We'll also hear from Moby, Skeewiff, The Malex Kings, Beat Fatigue, Minoru and a whole lot more!

In the last half hour I'll be sending you out with some trip-hop featuring Hugo Kant's new LP The Point Of No Return, which came out earlier this week. We'll also hear from Nym, Question, ProleteR and L'Orange. Stream it live June 14th, 10pm-12am CDT right here on KRUU radio.

Jazz & Funk of 2014 Featuring Organ Explosion

On today's edition of That Righteous Jive I've got some more fresh funk for your body and soul, this time courtesy of Organ Explosion and the eponymous debut album they released earlier this year. This trio from Germany plays "melodies for millions, with the sex of funk, the dirt of the blues, a punk attitude, and the freedom of jazz."

On top of that we've got some more of my favorite jazz and funk of 2014 with Stanton Moore, The Brooks, Euro Cinema, Souljazz OrchestraThe New MastersoundsOmaha Diner and DopeGems. Stream it live June 10th, 5-6pm CDT right here on KRRU radio.

Alternative Rock & Blues On The After Hours

We'll be listening to some great alternative rock and blues on this Saturday night's edition of The After Hours. From this year, we have: Morning Phase by Beck, Turn Blue by The Black Keys, plus a few tracks from Jack White's second solo album Lazaretto, which comes out next week.

On top of that we've got This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About, the debut album from Modest Mouse, who will supposedly be releasing a new album this year (though at this point I'm a little skeptical).

Finally we'll be finishing out the night with some downtempo electronica courtesy of Oakland-based producer Broke For Free and the LP he released earlier this week: Petal. Stream it live June 7, 10pm-12am CDT right here on KRUU radio.

Funk, Trip-hop & Acid Jazz On The After Hours

On this Saturday night's edition of The After Hours, we'll be starting off with some fresh funk featuring The Brooks and their debut album Adult Entertainment, which came out earlier this month.

"The Brooks were brought together by their mutual love and appreciation for authentic, vintage Funk & Soul music. Recorded live at Troublemakers studios, in Montreal Qc, during several late night studio jam sessions, The Brooks' debut album strives to bring back the old school with an infusion of fresh influences to keep your body movin'!"

After that we've got some great trip-hop, turntablism and acid jazz courtesy of Smokey Bandits, Dirty Art ClubBerry Weight, Shag, Esbe, Hugo Kant and Hexsagon. Stream it live May 31, 10pm-12am CDT right here on KRUU radio

Trip-Hop of 2014

Once again I've got some brand new trip-hop for your brains to digest, this time courtesy of Moderator and the LP he released last week: As The Lights Fade.

On this Saturday night's edition of The After Hours we'll be listening to some of my favorite tracks from Moderator's new album, plus a whole lot more great sample-based and breakbeat-laced trip-hop (all from albums released this year). On the roster we've got: Kognitif, Hugo Kant, ShagMr. Moods and Erik Jackson, Koloto, trog'low, Boogie Belgique, Apollo Brown and more!
