Jazz, Math-Rock & Hip-Hop of 2014

  

Oh yeah, tonight’s show is gonna be all over the place genre-wise, but it’ll all be great music and it’ll all be from albums released this year.

We’ll start off with some jazz courtesy of Wil Blades, Stanton Moore, Tingvall Trio and Organ Explosion. After that we’ve got some math-rock and post-rock with Totorro and Waking Aida. Dilated Peoples' dropped their new album today, Directors of Photography, and I can't think of a better excuse to recap some of my favorite hip-hop of 2014. I'll be featuring Dilated Peoples, Atmosphere and Sifu Hotman, but we'll also hear from Intuition & Equalibrum, ArtOfficialAnti-Lilly & Phoniks and Soulpete. Big Band Jazz, Funk & Electro-Swing of 2014

We'll start off with some big band jazz courtesy of Orrin Evans' Captain Black Big BandGordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band and Doc Stewart's Big Band Resuscitation. Experimental Brass of 2014

On today's edition of That Righteous Jive we'll be listening to some of my favorite experimental brass of 2014. I'll be featuring Renegade Brass Band and the new LP they released yesterday: RBB: Rhymes, Beats & Brass.

In the first half of this Tuesday's edition of That Righteous Jive, we'll be listening to some great post-rock and math rock featuring Chicago-based quartet The Earth Is A Man. We'll hear from their 2011 eponymous debut LP, as well as the EP they released last week: Pargon. On top of that we've got An Aesthetic Anaesthetic and Waking Aida.

In the second half of the show I've got some great indie rock featuring Kingston, a group from Ireland, and their 2013 eponymous debut EP. We'll also hear from whysowhite and Mike Dillon's Band

Funk of 2014

 

2014 has been an incredible year for funk, with new bands emerging all across North America. On this Saturday night's edition of The After Hours we'll be listening to some of my favorite funk and jazz-funk to have come out so far this year. I'll be featuring Atta Kid, a group from Oakland, California, and the debut ablum they released last week: East Basics. I've been so impressed with their debut that I'm going to be playing the whole thing in its entirety.

We'll also hear from debut albums by Beat Mosaic, Analog Son, Swift Technique, The Brooks, The Blacksmiths and Phonograff. On top of that we've got new albums by The New Mastersounds, Euro Cinema, Shawn Lee and Here Come The Mummies. Stream it live July 12th, 10pm-12am CDT right here on KRUU radio.
