It's February.  It's Iowa.

Time for a beach party.

Grab your board, your towel and your sunblock,

and tune in.

Tuesday 2/7/11, 8-10 PM.

Rebroadcast Friday midnight after P5K.

rabbitI don't think I need to tell you anything about Groundhog Day, the original underground holiday.  However, let me quote you a quote about the Year of the Rabbit, which begins February 3rd: A placid year, very much welcomed and needed after the ferocious year of the Tiger. We should go off to some quiet spot to lick our wounds and get some rest after all the battles of the previous year.

CrapperCrapper 2

January 27th is Thomas Crapper Day, and this year is the 101st anniversary of his passing.  Contrary to popular belief, Mr. Crapper (and it was 'Mr.' not 'Sir Thomas') did not invent the flush toilet, which in fact predates him by over 200 years.  And referring to the toilet as 'the crapper' has nothing to do with him either.  'Crap' derives from the Latin 'crappa', meaning chaff, or waste products.

However, Mr. Crapper did much to popularize the flush toilet, supplying them to two kings of England in his day, not to mention creating the first bathroom-fittings showroom.   And he also patented a number of improvements in toilet design, not least of which was the ballcock.

The Intercranial Whizbang Hour is proud to open this week's show with a salute to the life and achievements of Mr. Thomas Crapper.

I'm not quite sure what the connection is between NRBQ and television animators, beyond a generally skewed approach to life and art, but there certainly is one.

Q-SimpsonsAn animated version of the band played a gig at Poppa Wheelie's biker bar in one episode of The Simpsons, and they had their music used in a number of others.

But Spongebob Squarepants has outdone the Simpsons by actually recording his own versions of 'Q' songs with new lyrics.  On this week's Whizbang we'll do an a/b on four NRBQ songs and their Spongebob counterparts.  Pants not required for listening.

This week's Whizbang falls on 1/11/11, and so we'll begin with a salute to that digit which remains #1 even after all these years in the numbers game.

And hey, we can do it all over again in November.

Tuesday 1/11/11, 8-10 PM.

Rebroadcast Friday at midnight after P5K.

Weird guitar

In honor of 2011: three songs from 1911, NRBQ's legendary "11-Bar Blues" and anything else I can think of that has to do with eleven.  Let's just hope it's a lucky number.
