Mike Ragogna's blog

DionA Conversation with Dion DiMucci. This is one you don't want to miss, good folk of Fairfield. Rock'n'roll Hall of Famer Dion talks about being the last one to the leave the room alive on the day the music died, that is, the flight he decided not to take even though he won the coin toss, because $36 just seemed like too much to pay for a one-hour flight from Clear Lake, Iowa to Moorhead, Minnesota on a freezing February night. That's right. Dion was on the Winter Dance Party Tour with Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper that ended in tragedy. Mike Ragogna talks with Dion about his new blues project, his time with Dion and the Belmonts ("Runaround Sue" and "The Wanderer"), his comeback with #1 megahit classic "Abraham, Martin & John," his long-time marriage, his forray into Christian rock (he won a Dove award), and much more. All I can say is this is one Italian New Yorker who has made his mark.

KRUU Welcomes Legendary Merle Haggard Thu 1pm

Merle HaggardThis is an amazing coup for solar-powered KRUU 100.1 FM, 'The Voice of Fairfield, Iowa... and Beyond.' A discussion with one of country music's greatest legends, the multi-instrumentalist outlaw Merle Haggard. Along with Buck Owens, Haggard and his band The Strangers helped create the Bakersfield sound, which is characterized by the unique twang of Fender Telecaster guitars, vocal harmonies, and a rough edge not heard on the more polished Nashville Sound recordings of the same era.

By the 1970s, Haggard was aligned with the growing outlaw country movement, and has continued to release successful albums through the 1990s and into the 2000s. In 1997, Merle Haggard was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame for his song "Okie from Muskogee".
