Mike Ragogna's blog

MARCO BENEVENTO is a New York jazz musician who plays as simply as Thelonius Monk and as expansively as Sun Ra. His musical tastes run the gamut from Led Zeppelin to Miles Davis. He's been in countless bands like the Jazz Farmers, Garage A Trois, & the Benevento Russo Duo, who've performed at events like Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Fuji Rock Festival, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, SXSW, Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, High Sierra Music Festival.

SONNY LANDRETH is best known for his slide playing, having developed a technique where he also frets notes and plays chords and chord fragments behind the slide while he plays. Landreth plays with the slide on his little finger, so that his other fingers have more room to fret behind the slide. He's also known for his right-hand technique, which involves tapping, slapping, and picking strings, using all of the fingers on his right hand.

Landreth has recorded with Jimmy Buffett, and accompanied him on his 2006, 2007 and 2010 summer tours.

When it comes to Dobro Jerry Douglas is God!

Jerry Douglas is the highly valued, widely acclaimed premier dobro player based out of Nashville, Tennessee. He talks with Huffpo's Mike Ragogna about his storied career and his new release "TRAVELER". His contributions run deep, from his ongoing gig with Alison Krauss and Union Station, to his groundbreaking work on the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. He has played with countless other legends, tucked thirteen Grammys into his belt, and played on over two thousand records. Jerry Douglas is to roots music instrumentalists what T- Bone Burnett is to producers.

Jerry Douglas

Sit back and listen to pure poetry in motion from the heart and fingertips of a rarified talent. Not to mention one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Jerry Douglas and dobro. Now that's America. Thanks, Mike, for your incredible connections and generosity in hooking up Fairfield.

    MARTY STUART

So here he is again, almost four decades strong, in the very space where so many Elvis Presley smash hits were recorded as were classic sides by Charley Pride, Connie Smith, Porter Wagoner, Dolly Parton and Waylon Jennings, only to name a few. As the new Sugar Hill Records album title says, it's also where the latest Marty Stuart release, Ghost Train (The Studio BSessions), has just been recorded.

RODNEY CROWELL

Songwriter and recording artist with the distinction of being the only guy to write, sing, and produce five consecutive number one songs in country music. Born in Houston, Texas, Crowell's bloodlines are of the Scottish, Irish, English and Cherokee blend found in the sharecrop farm lands of Western Kentucky and Tennessee. In the late depression era barn dance society of Paris, Tennessee and Calloway County, Kentucky, my father, his father, my mother’s mother and sister were fairly well known for their musical inclinations.
