Maceo Parker, the Godfather of Soul's right hand man

Dial M-A-C-E-O!

Maceo Parker has recorded with such diverse acts as Ani DiFranco, Prince, De La Soul, Jane's Addiction, Keith Richards, Dave Matthews Band, Bootsy Collins, and George Clinton with his various incarnations of Funkadelic and Parliament. He's toured the country for years with his own bands. But the Kinston, North Carolina native made his mark laying down the funky sax for James Brown in his miraculous backing band, The J.B.s.

!n 1962, Maceo and his brother Melvin were in school at the A & T College in Greensboro. When the Godfather of Soul wandered in for some late night food and saw Melvin playing drums, he told him, "If there's ever a time when you're not a student and you want a job with me, you got it, automatically." A year and a half later, both he, and Maceo, did just that. Maceo would become the lynch-pin of the J.B.s for the best part of two decades. His signature sax sound helping define James' brand of funk with hits like "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" & "I feel Good". James Brown's exhortation: "Maceo, I want you to Blow!" passed into the lexicon.

Another set of stellar interviews by KRUU radio personality Mike Ragogna: the deep-boned voice of American Idol winner Scotty McCreery, who has a new Christmas CD. As nice a young man as he is talented, McCreery talks about his meteoric rise and his normal outlooks with friends and family.

Then gifted songstress Lindi "Red Boots" Ortega talks about her new release Cigarettes & Truckstops, her love of Hank Williams, touring with fellow Canadian kd lang, and her recent move to Nashville.
