In 2007 after finding herself 250lbs and obese the activist declared in a speech at the United Nations that she was not dying of AIDS, but of AIDS activism. She ended up losing 110 pounds running from New York to Chicagoand then completing a two more ultra marathons on three continents raising awareness about AIDS earning her the nickname the black forest gump.
